ABOUT ANDREW COATS
Andrew is an Olin alum who graduated in 2008 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his time at Olin, he worked on many interesting projects , including helping to put WiFi on the Commuter Rail. Andrew also cultivated a love for coffee during his time at Olin, which he took to his company, Luminaire. Andrew also has extensive experience designing and building medical devices, including building surgical devices to treat Type 2 Diabetes with a startup. He is currently working on a startup that makes injectors for high viscosity drugs.
After graduating from Olin, Andrew started working for the consulting company, Cambridge Consultants. After a couple of years working there part time, he and a group of other engineers started Luminaire Coffee, a company that makes novel technology for the specialty coffee industry, including an instant hot water heater for pour overs. Andrew has also been involved in multiple medical technology startups. In 2014 he began working as an Engineering Manager for Portal Instruments, where he mentors team members and coordinates external business relations and IP protection. During the 2014-2015 academic year, he helped coordinate Olin’s SCOPE program.
